Synopsis :

Design of Re-Development of Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH1) Kota Kinabalu

Healthcare facilities fundamentally are functional and interlinked spaces with a defined usage purpose to serve its primarily three groups of users – The Patient, The Visitor and The Staff. Therapeutic environment, place-making and holistic characteristics were infused together with functionality as the main approach to designing the Redevelopment of Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 Kota Kinabalu. Spanning almost 23 years in the making, the redevelopment which was conceptualized in 1991, construction stages in 4 packages – starting from 1998, finally completed in 2014.

Low Pitch Roof

Traditional pitched roof systems have served us well for over sixty years in Malaysia. The pitched roof systems stand the test of time and are fine for the majority situations. However, there is a continued growth in demand for low pitch solutions over the past few years. The global trend towards a reduction in pitch on roofs is being driven by a number of factors. Metal roofing and reinforced concrete flat roof are the major options to be considered for low pitch roof solutions.
