Re: Calling for Technical Reviewers, PAM Sabah Awards 2021/2022

 Greetings from PAM Sabah Chapter!

On behalf of the Chapter, I am pleased to announce that our first ever inaugural PAM Sabah Awards is back, following the lifting of the inter-district travel and the opening up for the economy by the government.

Therefore, I look forward to your wholehearted participation in making this meaningful PAM Sabah Award a success.

|To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls is 5th goal out of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals listed by the United Nation. It is mentioned that the UN recognized that to end poverty and other deprivations, the effort must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth. As a developing country, gender equality plays an important role especially when our country needs more skills and manpower resources to boost the country’s economy growth. This presentation is meant to create awareness by introducing the gender concept and how mainstreaming gender can applied into practice.

Ar. Sharon Magdalene Amin, graduated in 2008 with B.Arch (Hons) Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. In 2017, she opens her own practice, Sharon M Amin Architect. She had been actively involved in PAM activities since 2010 and was the Graduate Representative in 2010 and 2016. She continues to serve the Chapter committee in 2017 after joining the Corporate membership. Ar. Sharon is currently the Honorary Secretary in PAM Sabah Chapter Committee 2021/2022.

In 2019 Ar. Sharon participated in the Gender in Development Workshop organized by JHEWA as a participant. In 2020, she was selected to be trained as certified Trainer by JHEWA and attended the Train-the-Trainers Workshop: Gender in Development. Other than that, the same year, she also attended the Disability Equality Training (DET) Workshop organized by Sabah Social Welfare Department. Updated Survey on the Impact of MCO and COVID-19 pandemic on Architectural Firms in Sabah Chapter (January – August 2021)
PAM Sabah Chapter MCO Survey.

PAM Sabah Chapter Committee has been carrying out several surveys since the first Movement Control Order (MCO) from 18 March 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic to obtain feedback from PAM members on the impact of the pandemic and economic crisis to their architectural practices.

The implementation of MCO imposed by the Government from 1 June to 28 June 2021 was subsequently extended indefinitely due to the rise in the COVID-19 cases, which is caused by the infectious coronavirus variants over the last 15 months.

Since the rise of COVID-19 cases stricter MCO has been implemented to bring down the COVID-19 cases to below 4,000 per day (for Phase 1 of the national recovery plan) and to vaccinate the population to reach herd immunity of 70%-80% fully vaccinated of the population as soon as possible.

Thus, this survey is to collate and analyze data from the architectural practices how prolongation of MCO may have affected their practices.

To ensure accuracy of the survey, we only require one Director per practice/firm to answer the survey.

This survey will run from 1 to 7 September 2021.

Thank you for taking time to complete the survey.
